Marble requires a bit (sometimes a lot) of maintenance and for many people, the effort isn't worth the headache. I have 3 kids at home, run two full time businesses, and homeschool all these little humans. With teenagers at home, I often wake up to food and drink covered countertops from their nighttime cooking shenanigans, come home to paint and glue at the island from my creative artsy daughter, and to be real embarrassingly transparent- there's usually a mound of dishes waiting to be washed at any given time next to the sink. All marble nightmares. I have no interest in or time to worry about my kitchen and bathrooms, I need wipe and go. Although I still absolutely ohh and ahh and daydream of the most beautiful marble kitchen every time someone chooses it for their renovation, it's just not for where I'm at in life right now. It's on my someday list. Here's a few things to keep in mind if you're considering adding marble to your home.
Marble (and other natural stones) need to be sealed regularly. This slows down the absorption of water, acids, etc that the stone is exposed to in daily life. In simple terms, it buys you time to clean up the messes before they damage your stone. Marble will always be a timeless choice that holds it's value well when properly cared for. Whether it's right for you, is really a personal choice. Still not sure if it's right for your lifestyle? Reach out for a consult!
